MwB Mediation Certification Program

The MwB Mediation Certification Program provides individuals a time-limited use of a credential (three years) after verifying that an applicant has met predetermined criteria. The MwB credentials are the MwB Mediation Certificate and the Mediation Specialty Certificate. MwB will maintain a registry of Certified Mediators and post on the MwB Website.

The following tables provide the criteria (i.e., the requirements) for the MwB Mediation Certificate, the MwB Mediation Specialty Certificate, MwB Re-Certification, and MwB De-Certification as well as the documentation MwB utilizes to verify the applicant’s qualifications for these credentials. MwB Mediation Certificate

Requirement

Documentation Required

High School Diploma or GED

Copy of Diploma or GED

40 hour Mediation course

Copy of Course Certificate and syllabus or description of course content

100 hours of mediation

Itemized listing of the following:

-Type of case (specialty area e.g., divorce, civil, health/elder care, workplace, construction)

-Hours and date

-Supervision name & type

(Case Document Log provided in application packet provided by MwB)

Five (5) Consultation /Supervision Hours

Name of mediator(s) who supervised and/or provided consultation and method of consultation (e.g., debriefing, discussion with co-mediator, case review, phone conference)

(Consultation/Supervision to be listed on Case Document Log provided in application packet provided by MwB)

Five (5) Completed Client Satisfaction Surveys

Five (5) completed surveys from clients which includes client contact information (Client Satisfaction Survey provided in application packet provided by MwB)

Practicing to ACR Standards of Practice

Applicant signs a statement on MwB Certification Application attesting that they practice to ACR Standards of Practice


MwB Mediation Specialty Certificate

Requirement

Documentation Required

Specialized Areas of Competency:

- Health/Eldercare
- Workplace
- Divorce/Child Custody
- Community/Civil
- Construction

Requirement:

•  Complete a 40 hour course focusing on specialty area

•  Complete 100 hours of mediation in the specialized area (Can use the same mediation hours you used for the MwB Mediation Certificate as long as the mediation was done in specialty area)

-Type of case (specialty area e.g., divorce, civil, health/elder care, workplace, construction)

-Hours and date

-Supervision name & type

MwB Re-Certification

Requirement

Documentation Required

15 hours of Continuing Mediation Education (CME) every 3 years

Copy of Course Certificate and syllabus or description of course content.

(Accepted CMEs provided by MwB)


MwB De-Certification

Complaint is made to MwB Grievance Committee about an MwB Certified Mediator

MwB Grievance Committee investigates and makes a decision regarding de-certification

If mediator is de-certified, mediator will be taken off registry of MwB Certified Mediators
